It's no secret: the Jeep Wrangler has held the top spot in the off-road vehicle segment for years. But since 2021, the Bronco has resurfaced after a notable absence of nearly 25 years. Many off-road enthusiasts are wondering: does the Bronco truly have what it takes to dethrone the reigning champion, the Jeep Wrangler?

In this comparison, we will look at the 2025 Jeep Wrangler and 2025 Ford Bronco in detail, including the different trims offered and their prices, technical specifications, capabilities, power and performance levels, and much more. Continue reading without further delay!

Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco 2025: trims and pricing

The Jeep Wrangler is well-known for offering a variety of trims so that each driver can select a version that suits them perfectly. This is once again the case for 2025, as it offers a choice between eleven different trims, all exceptional. Six of the trims offered are 4-door, and the remaining five are 2-door models.

To compete with the legendary Wrangler, the Bronco also offers 2 and 4-door trims, but its offerings are limited compared to its rival. It provides six versions, of which two offer the possibility of opting for a 2-door trim.

Moreover, despite a relatively similar level of equipment, the base version of the Ford Bronco is priced $10,000 higher than the base version of the Jeep Wrangler ($51,010 compared to $40,190 for the Wrangler). Given the similarities in terms of equipment, this price increase is hard to justify.

As for the top-tier trims, the most luxurious ones offered by the two manufacturers have a price difference of over $40,000! The more affordable price is, once again, attributed to Jeep ($76,485 for the Wrangler Rubicon X 2025 compared to $117,570 for the Bronco Raptor). Is this staggering difference justified? We don't think so. Indeed, for the price you would pay for a Raptor with Ford, you could buy both a Rubicon X and a Wrangler Sport from Jeep!

Here are the different trims offered by both constructors et their respective base price:

  • Ford Bronco, trim and starting price :
Base (2 or 4 doors) $ 51,010
Big Bend (4 doors) $ 55,010
Outer Banks (4 doors) $ 62,935
Badlands (2 or 4 doors) $ 67,105
Heritage Edition (4 doors) $ 68,805
Raptor (4 doors) $ 117,570
  • Jeep Wrangler, versions et prix :
Sport $ 40,190
Sport S $ 42,890
Willys $ 46,995
4- Door Sport $ 54,685
4- Door Sport S $ 56,985
4- Door Willys $ 61,735
4- Door Sahara $ 64,790
Rubicon $ 65,685
4- Door Rubicon $ 68,185
4- Door Rubicon X $ 78,980
Rubicon X $ 76,485

Please note that these trims do not even consider the new electrified versions of the Wrangler- the Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid.

Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco 2025: engines and power

For the Ford Bronco, the standard engine is a 2.3L turbocharged block producing 300 horsepower. You could also opt for a 2.7L twin-turbo V6 offered as an option, which offers 330 horsepower. As for the Raptor, it features a 3.0L EcoBoost V6 producing 418 horsepower, but, given the astronomical price difference, it is hardly comparable and must be considered in a class of its own.

A 10-speed automatic transmission is paired with both engines, but a seven-speed manual gearbox option is also available on certain Bronco trims.

As for the Jeep Wrangler, the standard engine is a 3.6L Pentastar V6, which continues to offer robust performance with its 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of maximum torque. This engine will now be available with a six-speed manual gearbox or with the eight-speed automatic transmission that is returning this year. This TorqueFlite transmission is the perfect solution to continue preserving the Jeep's legendary off-road capabilities while offering smoother shifts on the highway or for everyday driving.

You could also opt for a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. This engine is exclusively associated with the 8-speed automatic transmission. A 470-horsepower V8 is also available. This engine is even more powerful than the most luxurious Bronco trim with its 418 horsepower (without causing the price to skyrocket). This does not even take into account the hybrid versions of the Wrangler.

Certainly, at first glance, the Bronco seems to offer increased power compared to the base engines of the Wrangler, but since these models are primarily intended for off-road driving, this difference remains minimal in this context. Moreover, the Wrangler clearly emerges victorious in these same conditions, as we will see in detail below. The Jeep Wrangler's V8 is also the most powerful of all engines, across all models for both manufacturers (including the Raptor).

Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco 2025: off-road capabilities

The Jeep Wrangler and the Bronco are both SUVs designed for off-road use. They are both equipped with all-wheel drive as standard and a range of equipment designed for these conditions, such as forward-facing camera, disconnectable stabilizer bar, and robust all-terrain tires, for example.

The Bronco's disappearance from the market for over 25 years has given the Wrangler a significant advantage: experience. While it tries to carve its niche by offering several elements similar to those of the Jeep Wrangler â€' such as a removable roof, 2 and 4-door trims, etc. The Bronco simply cannot compete with it under these conditions, and this for various reasons.

Firstly, the Wrangler is much easier to handle in off-road conditions and offers superior articulation. Even if the Bronco manages to tackle the same obstacles as the Jeep vehicle, it simply does not share the same articulation fluidity. This is mainly due to the extremely solid front axle of the Jeep (the Bronco is equipped with an independent front suspension, but it is not as effective).

Secondly, the Bronco has a longer wheelbase than the Wrangler, which increases the difficulty it has in overcoming certain steep obstacles compared to its rival. The only advantage that Ford seems to present over Jeep is at high speed in desert conditions, although this type of scenario seems to be quite rare when considering the off-road conditions faced by Canadian drivers!

Where the Bronco distinguishes itself from the Wrangler is in daily road behavior, which is more harmonious and less dynamic, given that it is easier to handle on the highway, for example, or in urban centers. One could also highlight a more comfortable interior than the Jeep, but given the significant price increase, a minimum of more is expected!

Though less comfortable, the Wrangler offers a much more dynamic drive, which complements its off-road vehicle vocation. For some off-road enthusiasts, this represents an advantage for the Wrangler rather than a disadvantage.

So, if you use your SUV mainly for everyday driving, you might be tempted to favor the Ford. However, for off-road conditions, the Wrangler remains the vehicle of choice.

Conclusion

The Ford Bronco and the Jeep Wrangler are both high-quality SUVs. On one side or the other, you can't go wrong. What should tip the scales is the use you plan to make of your vehicle, the road conditions you expect to face regularly, and the type of driving you are looking for.

Price is also a key element, and in this case, the scale clearly tilts in favor of the Jeep Wrangler, which is, overall, significantly more affordable.
